Many of us won’t know much about kidney diseases until it’s too late and the symptoms become severe. This is the reason, we thought to write a knowledgeable blog about kidney diseases and cure.

According to Andrew Narva, M.D., Director of the National Kidney Disease Education Program (NKDEP), the kidney disease symptoms don’t occur until it’s in its advanced stage. This is the reason one should keep on updating his medical tests from time to time.

An important step in the kidney testing is that your doctor should measure the level of serum creatinine in your blood to estimate your glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Other than that, measuring of urine is important too. Regular blood pressure check is highly advisable. Most importantly, if one is suffering from diabetes or heart disease or if there’s any such family history of kidney diseases, the regular checkup should be more often.

Types of Tests:

There are two main types of tests:

1. GFR:

In this type, there’s blood test conducted which shows how much blood your kidneys filter each minute. As explained earlier, it is also known as GFR (glomerular filtration rate). A GFR of 60 or higher is in the normal range and if it’s below that, then you might be having some kidney disease.

2. UrineProtein:

In this type, the urine test has conducted that shows if the protein is leaked in urine or not. Protein can leak into the urine when the filters in the kidneys are damaged. This test is also known as “microalbuminuria” or “urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio.”

Treatment:

It is always advisable to cure the kidneys before the damage because once the kidneys are damaged, there’s no way it can be undone. Controlling blood pressure and monitoring blood glucose in case of diabetes is very important. Two kinds of medicines, ACEi (angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors) and ARBs (angiotensin receptor blockers) help to protect the kidneys.

In the case of kidney failure, transplant is recommended.
